We went here during the trip!
We skated Dry Ridge most of Tuesday night. Luckily they also have lights, and an old parks/rec dude drove by with his pick up truck and said “be sure y’all turn the lights off when you leave”. Nice!
After dark, all the kids cleared out, it was weird, but we had the park to ourselves. So the three of us ventured out onto the street course and had some fun. I was a bit worked after slamming several times in the pool. We were having trouble with dust collecting on the grip tape. I had to get the broom out and brush off the grip every 5 minutes. My feet were slipping off and so was Callahan’s. Cappetto, had no trouble at all because he had his Pony Hair TNT’s
After a while, they wanted to do this crazy downhill gap that is connected to the snake run. I was like, go ahead. I’m not gonna do it. Callahan made a few attempts and tried one with commitment. His feet got sketchy and he slammed out of it on his wrist and knees. No pads, all nasty.
The next day we got up early and had a breakfast at the hotel with free Playboy… Doughnuts and bad coffee. We headed over to Louisville again for some more shred and a little sight seeing. Cox Smokers was up there on the list.
I ate major shit skating from point A to point B at Louisville. It was nearly a trip ending slam. Luckily nothing was broke off too bad. But I got bummed and skated the little ledge for like an hour. That cheered me up!! We took some good runs in the pipe since it was finally empty. But there are so many craters in that thing now, it is a bit of a bummer. Dumb asses light off quarter sticks of dynamite in it to make a big boom. I’d like to make a boom stick out of there head.
We headed out of town to make way for Bloomington. We had so much fun the day before taking backroads, it was decided to do it again. Screw I-65. You never get to see anything that way.. So we headed out west of the city and headed north. It took us longer but we saw so many cool things. We stopped at a very cool old fashion drugstore called Butt Drugs.
It had an old fashion soda fountain and other cool stuff. The funny thing was the Hair Salon across the street was called “Booty’s”…
After a few hours of driving on the back roads, it was time for serious food. We made the mistake of waiting too long to get lunch and by the time we stopped it was over hunger time. We went to Golden Corral buffet and completely pigged out! I haven’t ate so much red meat in a long time but it was good!!!
However, by the time we were done it was definitely a mistake. We were 10 minutes from Bloomington and none of us were in skate shape. More round shape… So we got lost of course, (thanks again Google) and ended up on the college campus. Which was not a bad thing. We enjoyed the eye candy…
We got to the park finally and it was still difficult to walk let alone skate. I was so tired from 10 hours of shredding and falling the day before adding on the driving, non sleep in the hotel with bad Playboy reality shoes, second hand smoke and beer… ugh.
After the shred time, we got to meet some cool people. One dude was from Texas who had an old school Hosoi and a Pig shape Powell. I love meeting cool people on the road. Hope to see him out some time!!
We stopped in Greenville, IN or something? I always wanted to check this one out but as I figured, cool design but sucky build. It was a Wormhout or something. they always have cool CAD designs but the build is always shit… This one was ridable though. So, I’ll check it out again sometime.
I was on spring break this past week so it has been busy. I did a bunch of sessions all over the place. I got out to Wilson, and rode the Possum ramp and even had a session in Manteno at the farm ramp! Lots of fun. The best was a trip down south for a couple of days.
Cappetto, Callahan and myself got into the Fit and headed south for a two day multi park whirlwind. We had too much fun, especially because it was 70 degrees and sunny the whole time! Such a big difference even with our 45 degree weather up here in Chicago. That little bit helps so much.
My back felt like it was 20 years younger and I was all springy in my legs again! But that didn’t last long, our first stop in Louisville gave me some battle wounds. But it was soooo worth it!!
I picked up Callahan and Cappetto and got on the road by 9am and we were in Louisville by 1 or 2? It was such a blast to get back on the road again. I really was missing it. We started out with the snakey flow bowl and made our way to the big pipe. Unfortunately that afternoon there was water in the pipe so I rode around it and hit the 9′ end a lot. We had multiple sessions concentrating on different parts of the park. There were a lot of kids and bikers there as it was spring break for them too..
I bumped into some Chicago people which was pretty cool but there was a gang of scooter kids that showed. This one dumb ass was whipping his stupid scoot up in the air and around and then he would land in a fly out. Dumb. The first time, he nearly decapitated Callahan. By 4pm I started to get the urge to hit Dry Ridge. I wanted to get back there soooo bad but I had to convince the dudes to go. Callahan had never been and suddenly Cappetto remembered how rad it was.
He was stoked on the idea so we went for it. Stupid iPhone and Google maps took us on a crazy back road mission that wasted about 45min of our time. But it was such a scenic drive that it really didn’t matter. We were cruising through all of these skinny country farm roads and tight pinhole turns. I wish I had a better performing car to rip the corners byt the fit always pulls through.
I must say that Dry Ridge is one of my faves. It is such a small park but has soooo much to offer. the snake run is fast and you really have to react quick in order to make it down alive. And the bowl is sooooo fun. It is really close to being a pool but the transitions are mellow. It is so tight though. Man, I ate shit a couple of times and wrecked my wrists.
This was a funny and ironic photo. No jobs so the carreer paper is out of buisness and peeps uses its as’s a garbage cans.
