I love motorcycles, especially cheap customs. I know that the whole cafe racer/bobber thing is played out but hey, some are cool. the lo-fi and cheaper the better. I wanted to do this five years ago when you could still get a CB 350 for $100. But now they have become so popular that it is hard to find one for less than $1500. i still want to do this some day. If I only had a garage to chop it up… hmmm.
Archives for April 2010
At the end of the weekend before last, I went home from Wilson early. Yes, I left Wilson early I think I pulled a muscle in my leg and could not do much in the bowl. The night before, I had dinner with my old friend Truex and his wife. Very good food and conversation, after that I went to my former student Mike Scalzo and visited he and his wife plus fellow delinquents Kevin Steuart and Van der Hok. Good Good times! I missed Alex’s show – sorry – – – – It was too late after Scalazoa time.
So anyway, the next day my session was crappola and I left early because I really did not want to ruin my leg. I was on the way to my favorite quick pizza stop Riccobenes. I was at a stop light when this semi backed into me. Ugh. Bump. I tried to get out of the way but the dude behind me was oblivious and I honked my horn like crazy and the truck did not hear me. So BONK. But luckily the Fit is built like a tank and very little damage occured. I didn’t even bother to do anything because the body shop said all they would do is paint the fender. But, I did so much damage already in other places that it would cost me extra because of all the other curb rash, pot hole smashes and dusche back parker smacks… So whatever.
I went to Kokomo on Thursday with Cappetto and we had a great solo sesh. The first few hours were spend in the tight capsule and the rest were spent in the deep. I got a lot of lines back and my leg was feeling much better. I didn’t skate since Sunday which is rare for me but I just wanted some time to heal.
Cappetto was about to drop in when some dumb ass did a shove-it next to him, lost his board and Cappetto ended up jumping in and nearly eating shit. Stupid people do stupid things. We took a little break and came back only to have a mini van pull up with about five 12 year olds on bikes and scooters. We tried to stay cool and ride the separate area but by 20 minutes of them throwing bikes in the bowl and smashing the cement, they got bored and started to bug us. “can I ride your board” one said to me, – NO. i said “don’t talk to strangers”. Then they started in with Cappetto and eventually were running in the bowl we were skating. The bikes and scooters were spread out in all of the other bowls in the park. The rest of the people there were just standing on the deck, shacking their heads.
So I decided it was time to go. We skated long enough, Cappetto was good and so we packed up and headed out. Then I heard “your music sucks” so I had to give them a little lecture. After that, I think they got the bikes out of the bowl at least. I didn’t stick around… over it.
We did Possum on Friday – with the BBQ. Nice
I got to see Eric and my Godson Alex. Yep, you read that right! I am a Godfather!!!!!! Stoked!
Wilson was rad on Saturday until a Biker snaked me in the Flow Bowl and messed my leg up again… Thanks dumb ass. I decided not to hit Wilson on Sunday and go to Whiting because I am so over the shit that goes on there. I try to be humble and keep my cool but people really piss me off and I always end up looking like the crabby old jerk. But people have no respect for the parks and are so spoiled to day.
Of course, Whiting needed lots of cleaning. It has the opposite problem of Wilson, not enough use but also stupid non-skateboarders who get board and dump a filled garbage can in the bowl…
Well, it was not that much of a bummer weekend but this was so so. SOrry I hope to be less off soon. Big things are hopefully happening this week. Positive attitude and keeping the first foot forward and stuff. Oh, and Karma will always come back at you…
Three years ago, a group of us did the impossible. We got together and built a ramp in a warehouse in the city. We had been hearing about all kinds of other secret ramps but were not ALLOWED to go… Even some ramps where people showed in my former gallery and still no invite. NICE
Well we did it. It worked well for a while but now it is going away. Sniff Sniff…
SO I got invited to eat a home-made Jewish/Vegan breakfast at the Calabro compound. Thank you soooooooo much DACIA for making this killer food!!! I was so fortunate to have that nice breakfast. It was GOOOOOOOD! Dacia is a vegan/vegitarian chef and really rules it in the kitchen as well as in the bowl.!!!
Check out her footy at Whiting from the other night. The woman is really getting good!
Beanie was there – he absolutely kills it!! Still…
I got out to Kokomo last Thursday with the Possum Death Squad (Cappetto and Callahan). We had a good 4-5 hours of seczuan. SOooo good!! Kokomo is my favorite park in the Midwest. I think it may be one of the best parks ever made by Grindline. I know there are new additions that are really sweet but this one is pretty far up there on the list.
We left early in the morning and stopped at the awesome super gas station/truck stop in Lowell, IN. They have really good coffee and always have some kind of deal going on… buy one coffee get a free donut or whatever. Goodness. This place was the second stop about 20 minutes from the park. It is a little mom and pop gas station in a little town called Russiaville…
It was Callahan’s maiden sesh on this park. It always takes a few to get lines. But at this place it is a matter of life and death. Even a slash grind is a big accomplishment. Just leaving with all of your limbs attached is a good thing!
It took a bit to get re-aquanted with the tight transitions at the park but we were on it after a bit. It was the first Kokomo sesh of the year so we were all a bit rusty.
There was some really annoying Graffiti popping up at the park now. (this one wasn’t so bad but still is stupid) Which totally sucks because the city is going to start painting over it… Now the supremely polished concrete will be covered with random patches of industrial paint like Wilson in Chicago. It so deeply sucks. I really hate stupid, dumb ass, kids that think they are cool and want to tag up the skatepark. You are not hard, you are not hip hop, you are not from the streets, you live in central Indiana so don’t try to be like the dumb fuck city kids that do the same thing to our park in Chi. Real taggers go and climb up 100 stories on a building somewhere and tag that up in a rad mural that actually looks good. Or they go to a permission wall or tag up a train car. Stay out of skateparks. It is not your canvas for creativity. Go be creative on someone else’s walls… Or better yet, give it up and pick up a skateboard, because you SUCK>
