I went into the studio and recorded a whole bunch of songs back in September. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time, but couldn’t justify it. I had always enjoyed making my own recordings and drawing my own cover art and making the CDs myself. DIY.
I put out something like 10 EPs and two full length albums over the last few years. But I decided that it would be advantageous to now have them printed. And also to go into the studio to record my songs live but have a good sound so that when people pop CD in they would hopefully be pleased.
The cold water collection is a group of songs that I have been performing over the last many years. I selected songs from the many EPs that I previously released and recorded them live in the studio the way that I perform them now. So the songs have changed lyrically and in some cases musically. I deeply felt it was an important thing for me to do at this time. I wanted to have an official first album. All of the CDs I have put out before hand are now collectors items and were produced in very limited numbers.
So friends that purchased them in the past now have something very special and rare.
This is American relic. It is technically my latest release of new songs that I had worked out in the last year. I wanted to release this in the spring of 2014 but I was extremely busy touring at the time and could not get into the studio. So this is unfortunately coming out late. However it is better late than never.
On this album you hear acoustic songs, banjo tunes and also my jump to using electric amplified guitar. I wanted to do this because I like to be involved and constantly tweak my sound. It is always a challenge to develop and hopefully improve. I also like to have a diverse lineup when I am choosing my set list and having the option to go electric at times is very necessary. However, at other times it is not needed. And so now I can really play to the room.
American relic is the official release of 2014.
