This is a photograph of my good friend Ryan Fielding’s grandfather. He owns/operates #paragoncustoms of Sauk City Wisconsin. Which is a shop that does all kinds of metal fabricating, custom car, motorcycle work and you name it. Ryan actually built the cover plate for my resonator guitar made my my good buddy Mike Callahan of #callahanguitars.
His grandfather was a lot my my grandfather. His grandfather was someone who did what he loved to do. And his life revolved around just that. Besides raising a family, Ryan’s grandfather built custom cars custom motorcycles, raced motorcycles, he was a stunt driver all kinds of really cool stuff! This man truly did live free.
And from my understanding he also understood the meaning of good work. Which is also a seldom discussed topic. What is the meaning of our current world of bottom-line, production efficiency, cheap labor and high profit margin for the man? Money… Bah
Anyway as I’ve been driving through the woods here and seeing beautiful things and appreciating the simple pleasures of life good oxygen, beautiful countryside and solitude. I have now broken down and got myself a very good breakfast so that I can have a little bit of some protein. And every bite of this breakfast has been amazing.
When I’m on the road I don’t eat out much because I simply can’t afford it. I don’t get hotels, and stay away from the mall. In any kind of situation stay away from the mall!
But doing this kind of thing I really learned to appreciate a nice breakfast, especially when he been eating canned tuna and peanut butter jelly nuts every day.
It is a great test of endurance, strength and it is a wonderful reminder of what was reality and Israel is a lot of folks. Once again this makes me very grateful for the wonderful life that I have. And I think often of people that lived in the past that had much less than what we have today, and were fine with that.
They really didn’t need air-conditioning, or Posturepedic mattresses, or specially designed the showerhead that will give you the most amazing experience while cleansing yourself. This kind of stuff wasn’t even an option.
Maybe another one of the problems is that we have too many options. Or too many distractions from what is really the problem.
